Board Chair – Mr Steve Shamy

lawley

Steve Shamy was born in 1954 in Christchurch New Zealand and lives there today. He is married with two adult children and currently holds the General Manager role at Rannerdale Veterans Care in Christchurch. He has worked in that role for 12 years and has managed the organisation through significant change and growth.

Steve’s background includes serving in the Royal New Zealand Navy, practicing as a registered nurse specialising in trauma nursing and working in the area of healthcare management. He held senior health management roles across both the public and private health care sectors.  He also worked for World Vision in humanitarian disaster relief management roles in Cambodia, Thailand and across Asia. Steve completed his post graduate studies in Health Management and MBA papers at Otago and Canterbury Universities.

Steve has both authored and co-authored papers in a number of international healthcare journals and participated in international health related research projects. He has also presented papers at a number of international healthcare conferences

Steve has worked closely with other provider organisations supporting the wider New Zealand veteran community. Rannerdale is a member of the Australasian Services Care Network (ASCN), a networking group of healthcare providers supporting veterans and their families across Australasia.

Steve has networked with government and non-government veteran support agencies in Canada, UK and Australia on veterans care issues. He has a particular speciality interest in promoting the establishment of community-based restorative programmes to support veterans and their families

Previous Chairman – Peter Lawley

Peter Lawley has been the Chief Executive Officer of Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy since 2010, and in 2012 became the Legacy Australia Council Aged Care Coordinator.

Peter has over 30 years senior management experience in Health and Aged Care Services, with qualifications in accounting and health management.

Peters past roles have included CEO and Operations Manager of not for profit Aged Care and Retirement Village Operators, as well as Director of Corporate Services and Finance in large public hospitals and health services.
